After being taken off on a stretcher early in Tuesday's game, San Jose Sharks defenceman Dan Boyle appears to be feeling better than expected on Wednesday.

Boyle left the Sharks' 6-2 win over the St. Louis Blues early with a head injury after Blues forward Maxim Lapierre hit him from behind.

Boyle was reported alert and responsive Tuesday night and according to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com, Boyle texted he was doing all right and thanked his well-wishers.

"I'm doing okay, thank you for your concern and support," Boyle said in a message directed at fans. "Means a lot to me. I've never once taken this game or any of my fans for granted. Hope to be back soon."

The Sharks announced that Boyle would be returning to San Jose on Wednesday to continue his medical care and undergo further evaluation.

Lapierre was ejected from Tuesday's game and may face further discipline from the NHL.
