The Montreal Canadiens announced on Wednesday that defenceman Davis Drewiske underwent shoulder surgery in Montreal and is expected to be 5-6 months.

Drewiske suffered the injury during training camp and was originally diagnosed to be out for four weeks.

The Canadiens are still without Douglas Murray (upper body) and Alexei Emelin (right knee injury), meaning Jarred Tinordi and Nathan Beaulieu are expected to stay up with the NHL club at least until they return.

In 29 games with the Los Angeles Kings and Canadiens in 2012-13, Drewiske racked up seven points with 14 penalty minutes and a plus-3 plus/minus differential.

He has recorded 25 points in 135 NHL career regular season games with 67 penalty minutes. Drewiske was acquired from the Kings on April 2 in return for a fifth round pick at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
