Daniel and Henrik Sedin avoided free agency at season's end with each signing a four-year, $28 million contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks. The brothers will each earn an average of $7 million per season.

The deal will see the 33-year-old Swedish twins remain in a Canucks uniform through the 2017-18 season and likely finish their NHL careers in Vancouver.

"Daniel and Henrik are exemplary leaders, teammates and humanitarians and we're very pleased to have them as part of our team for the long-term," said general manager Mike Gillis. "Few players in the history of this club have had more significant roles in contributing to the success of this team and to our community and we look forward to many more years with their positive influence leading the way."

The Sedins are in the final year of a five-year, $30.5 million deal they signed ahead of the 2009-10 season.

Henrik holds franchise records for most points (792), assists (610), plus/minus (+200) and consecutive games played (629). The Ornskoldsvik, SWE, native ranks second in franchise history in games played (940) and third in game-winning goals (33).

Daniel ranks second in franchise history in scoring, passing Naslund with a two-point effort April 22/13 versus the Chicago Blackhawks.

The brothers were drafted by the Canucks in the first round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Daniel getting selected second overall and Henrik going third. They spent their entire NHL careers with the Canucks, registering a combined 473 goals and 1,550 points over 12 seasons.
