Brian Rafalski's NHL comeback attempt is coming to early end.

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie reports that the Florida Everblades of the ECHL have released the 40-year-old defenceman, 18 days after he signed with the team.

Rafalski had not played for the club since January 18 because of a sore back. He skated in three games with the Everblades and had one assist.

In 11 NHL seasons, Rafalski totaled 515 points with the New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings. He retired from the NHL after the 2010-11 season.
