The waiting game continues between Chris Phillips and the Ottawa Senators.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports that the two sides are still at an impasse as they try to come to terms on a new contract prior to Wednesday's NHL trade deadline.

Dreger reports that it sounds like Phillips would prefer a two-year extension while the club would prefer just a one-year deal.

He is currently in the final year of a three-year, $9.25 million contract and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Phillips, 35, has appeared in 50 games with the Senators this season, scoring one goal and 12 assists.

The Calgary native was selected first overall at the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the Senators. He has spent his entire 16-year NHL career in the nation's capital and ranks behind only long-time former captain Daniel Alfredsson on the team's all-time games played list.

In 1,123 games with the Senators, he has scored 71 goals and 212 assists.
