The Washington Capitals have re-signed defenceman Dmitry Orlov to a two-year contract extension.

The 22-year-old will earn $1.75 million during the 2014-15 season and $2.25 million in 2015-16 for a annual average value of $2 million.

Orlov has scored three goals and six assists with 19 penalty minutes in 38 games with the Capitals this season. In 103 career NHL games with Washington, Orlov has scored six goals and added 23 assists.

The Novokuznetsk, Russia, native helped lead Team Russia to a gold medal at the 2011 World Junior Championship in Buffalo and was named to the tournament All-Star team.

Orlov was drafted by Washington in the second round (55th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
