The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with free agent defenceman Trevor van Riemsdyk on a two-year contract.

Van Riemsdyk, the younger brother of Toronto Maple Leafs forward and United States Olympic team member James van Riemsdyk, tallied four goals and 19 assists in 26 games at the University of New Hampshire this season. Despite playing in only 26 contests, he ranked fifth on the team in points and sixth in assists.

Prior to his collegiate career, the 22-year-old played two seasons with the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs of the Eastern Junior Hockey League from 2009 to 2011, tallying 24 goals and 49 assists in 70 games. He helped lead the Jr. Monarchs to the EJHL title in each of his two seasons with the club.
