Edmonton Oilers forward Nail Yakupov is making strides towards a recovery from an ankle fracture.

Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins announced Tuesday that Yakupov will resume skating later this week.

Yakupov has been out of the Oilers lineup since March 16 but originally suffered the injury on February 28 after being struck by a shot.

The first overall pick of the 2012 NHL draft has 11 goals and 13 assists in 63 games with the Oilers this season. He is last in the NHL with a minus-33 rating.
