The Toronto Maple Leafs are going to get a good look at their most recent first-round pick against professional competition.

The Leafs announced via Twitter that Frederik Gauthier has signed an amateur try-out contract with the Toronto Marlies for the duration of the American Hockey League playoffs.

In 54 games this season the Rimouski Oceanic centre scored 18 goals and 34 assists. He would add three goals and six assists in 11 playoff games.

The 18-year-old also represented Canada at the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championship, registering one assist in seven games in a fourth-place finish.

He was selected 21st overall by the Leafs at the 2013 NHL Draft and has scored 40 goals and 72 assists over 116 career games with Rimouski.
