Faced with a must-win situation, the Detroit Red Wings will be going with Jonas Gustavsson in goal again when they face the Boston Bruins in Game 5 of their first-round series at TD Garden.

"Gus is going to start," head coach Mike Babcock told reporters on Friday, adding that goaltender Jimmy Howard couldn't practice and he expects him to be the backup.

Gustavsson allowed three goals on 40 shots as the Bruins rallied for a 3-2 overtime victory in Game 4 at Joe Louis Arena on Thursday. The Bruins lead the best of seven series 3-1 with Game 5 on Saturday.

Gustavsson said he found out just before pre-game warm-ups that there was a chance he'd start in place of Howard, who led the Red Wings onto the ice. The decision was made not long before puck drop as Babcock said of Howard: "Last second, he just couldn't go." The team announced that Howard had the flu.

Also, veteran winger Daniel Alfredsson practiced on Friday and was confident that he'll be ready to play on Saturday. Alfredsson was scratched for the Red Wings in Game 4 as he continues to deal with back problems.

"I skated today and felt good," he told reporters. "We'll see how it goes later today, but I anticipate being available for tomorrow."

Captain Henrik Zetterberg, who was playing his first game in two months after back surgery, didn't skate on Friday but told reporters he felt good and will also play in Game 5.
