The Edmonton Oilers are looking to add depth to their blue line, as the team has acquired the negotiating rights to pending unrestricted free agent defenceman Nikita Nikitin from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

While not an official trade, the Oilers simply have a window in which it's permissible to negotiate with Nikitin.

Nikitin, 28, scored two goals and tallied 15 points in 66 games with the Blue Jackets last season.

In 206 games with the Blue Jackets and St. Louis Blues, he has 13 goals and 65 points.
