New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - New York City FC forward David Villa was named MLS Player of the Week on Tuesday for the 15th week of the 2015 Major League Soccer season.

The NYCFC captain secured his second Player of the Week nod on the heels of his finest MLS performance to date, recording his team-leading fourth goal, an assist and seven shots, leading his club to a comfortable 3-1 win over the Montreal Impact.

Villa opened the scoring in the 31st minute when he finished off an excellent passing sequence by making a perfectly-timed run into the box and firing home a pass from Mehdi Ballouchy.

Montreal pulled within one goal late in the match, but Villa helped ice the game in the 90th minute by delivering an assist on Kwadwo Poku's first MLS goal.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
