TORONTO - Toronto prospect William Nylander scored once and led all players with nine shots on net and Josh Leivo had a goal and two assists as the Marlies opened their American Hockey League season with a 5-3 win over the visiting Manitoba Moose on Friday.

Sam Carrick had a goal and an assist for the Marlies (1-0-0) while Byron Froese and Andrew Campbell added the others. Richard Panik, who was waived and demoted by the Maple Leafs on Wednesday, chipped in with two assists while Nylander picked up a helper on Carrick's empty-net goal.

Jay Harrison struck twice for the Moose (0-1-0), who also got a goal and an assist from Brenden Kichton.

Toronto's Antoine Bibeau made 21 saves for the win as Connor Hellebuyck turned away 29-of-33 shots for Manitoba.

The Marlies went 2 for 4 on the power play while the Moose failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.
