DETROIT — Sean Day scored a hat trick which included the winner in overtime as the Windsor Spitfires edged the Saginaw Spirit 3-2 on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Day, who was acquired from the Mississauga Steelheads on Oct. 19, had both regulations goals on the power play within a span of 21 seconds in the third period. Julius Nattinen assisted on all three goals for Windsor (18-5-4).

Matthew Kreis and Filip Hronek opened the scoring for the Spirit (9-14-4), who hosted the game at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena.

Michael DiPietro made 19 saves for the win as Evan Cormier stopped 40 shots in defeat.

The Spitfires were 2 for 3 on the power play, with Saginaw failing to score on its lone opportunity with the man advantage.

LONDON, Ont. — Robert Thomas had two goals and three assists to lead the Knights past Flint.

Sam Miletic scored twice and added an assist while JJ Piccinich had a goal and two helpers for London (19-3-5), which is 8-0-2 in its last 10 games. Adrian Carbonara also chipped in and Tyler Parsons made 35 saves.

Kole Sherwood and Nicholas Caamano, on the power play, found the back of the net for the Firebirds (14-12-2). Garrett Forrest kicked out 28-of-34 shots.

STEELHEADS 6 67's 3

OTTAWA — Owen Tippett had two goals and two assists for Mississauga in its victory over the 67's.

Brendan Harrogate also struck twice and Michael McLeod had a goal and two assists for the Steelheads (7-14-6), who fired 51 shots on net. Nicolas Hague had the other and Matthew Mancina made 20 saves.

Artur Tyanulin, Drake Rymsha and Chase Campbell supplied the offence for Ottawa (12-13-4). Olivier Lafreniere took the loss after kicking out 26-of-30 shots in 40:55. Leo Lazarev finished the game by making 19 saves.

OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Alex DeBrincat had two goals and an assist while Dylan Strome scored once and added three helpers as Erie routed the Attack.

Ivan Lodnia also struck twice for the Otters (21-6-2) with Jordan Sambrook rounding out the attack. Troy Timpano stopped 38 shots.

Nick Suzuki replied on the power play for Owen Sound (16-13-1) and Michael McNiven made 22 saves.

STING 4 ICEDOGS 3 (SO)

SARNIA, Ont. — Nikita Korostelev and Jordan Kyrou scored in the shootout as the Sting topped Niagara.

Kyrou, Ryan McGregor and Anthony Salinitri, on the power play, provided the offence in regulation for Sarnia (15-10-3). Justin Fazio turned aside 33 shots and both shooters in the shootout.

Akil Thomas struck twice with Oliver Castleman also chipping in for the IceDogs (9-13-6). Stephen Dhillon made 44 saves.
