WINDSOR, Ont. — Defenceman Sean Day scored in his first game with his new team as the Windsor Spitfires blanked the visiting Kingston Frontenacs 2-0 on Thursday in Ontario Hockey League action.

The 18-year-old Day, who was just the fourth player to ever be granted exceptional status by the OHL after John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad and Connor McDavid, was acquired in a trade with the Mississauga Steelheads on Tuesday. The New York Rangers selected him 81st overall at the 2016 NHL draft in June.

Michael DiPietro stopped all 25 shots his way to earn the shutout for the Spitfires (8-3-0).

Cole Purboo opened the scoring at 7:32 of the first and Day added his goal a little over three minutes later.

Jeremy Helvig stopped 29-of-31 shot for the Frontenacs (4-5-1).

Both clubs went 0 for 3 on the power play.

KNIGHTS 5 RANGERS 4

LONDON, Ont. — Victor Mete broke a 4-4 deadlock at 19:10 of the third period and JJ Piccinich had a pair of goals as the Knights came from behind to edge Kitchener.

Cliff Pu and Robert Thomas also scored for London (5-2-2) while Thomas and Mete each added two assists for three-point nights. Tyler Johnson made 28 saves for the win.

Jeremy Bracco, Joseph Garreffa and Dylan Seitz built up an early 3-0 lead for the Rangers (6-3-1). Doug Blaisdell added one of his own in the third period. Dawson Carty kicked out 29-of-34 shots in a losing cause.

BATTALION 8 67's 5

NORTH BAY, Ont. — Zach Poirier and Brett Hargrave each struck twice and Daniil Vertiy had four assists as the Battalion handed Ottawa its third loss in a row.

Kyle Potts, Brett McKenzie, Adam Thilander and Adam McMaster also scored for North Bay (5-5-0), which got a 30-save outing from Brent Moran.

Patrick White led the offence for the 67's (3-7-1) with a goal and two helpers. Sasha Chmelevski, Artur Tyanulin, Chase Campbell and Ben Fanjoy also scored while Leo Lazarev stopped 31-of-39 shots in defeat.

STING 6 PETES 1

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Anthony Salinitri had three goals and an assist and Justin Fazio made 38 saves as Sarnia downed the Petes for its third straight win.

Nikita Korostelev scored once and set up two more for the Sting (8-2-1) while Jaden Lindo and Adam Ruzicka rounded out the offence.

Kyle Jenkins scored for Peterborough (4-5-2). Dylan Wells took the loss after allowing four goals on 13 shots in a period of work. Scott Smith made 12 saves in relief.

COLTS 5 STEELHEADS 4 (SO)

BARRIE, Ont. — Roy Radke scored once in regulation, then added the shootout winner as the Colts slipped past Mississauga.

Lucas Chiado, Anthony Stefano and Tom Hedberg scored in regulation for Barrie (5-5-1) as David Ovsjannikov turned away 35-of-39 shots in 65 minutes, then all three shooters in the shootout, for the win.

Ryan McLeod forced overtime with a goal at the 19-minute mark of the third period for the Steelheads (4-5-1). Scoley Dow, Owen Tippett and Nicolas Hague also found the back of the net. Jacob Ingham made 26 saves in a losing cause.
