SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Connor McDavid and Dylan Strome each had two goals and an assist as Erie toppled the Greyhounds to even the Western Conference final at a game apiece.

Kyle Maksimovich also scored for the Otters, who got a 27-save outing from Devin Williams.

Nick Ritchie scored once for Sualt Ste. Marie and picked up an assist on a goal from Blake Speers. Brandon Halverson stopped 23-of-27 shots in defeat.

Erie hosts Game 3 Sunday.

Generals 6, Battalion 1

OSHAWA, Ont. - Jake Smith made 30 saves as the North Bay Battalion toppled the host Oshawa Generals 6-1 on Friday in Game 1 of their Ontario Hockey League Eastern Conference final.

Nick Moutrey had a pair of goals for the Battalion, who gave up the game's first goal before scoring six unanswered. Ray Huether, Zach Poirier, Zach Bratina and Nick Paul rounded out the rest of the offence.

Michael McCarron scored the lone goal for the Generals.

Oshawa's Ken Appleby allowed five goals on 27 shots in 46:33 of action before giving way to Jeremy Brodeur, who stopped 1-of-2 shots in relief.

North Bay went 0 for 2 on the power play while the Generals failed to score on seven chances with the man advantage.

Game 2 goes Sunday in Oshawa.
