TIJUANA, Mexico -- Canada finished in fourth place in the women's Olympic qualifying volleyball tournament following a five-set loss to Puerto Rico in the bronze medal match Saturday.
Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ont., scored a tournament high 32 points with 26 of them on kills, two on blocks and she added four service aces in Canada's 25-20, 20-25, 25-14, 23-25, 15-11 loss.
Marisa Field of Vancouver added 12 points for Canada.
"Mentally it was a tough match to play without any chances of reaching our main objective for the tournament," said team captain Tammy Mahon of Holland, Man.
The gold-medal game, with the Olympic spot on the line, between Cuba and the Dominican Republic was held later Saturday.
"It was a good performance from both teams and I am really proud of my team," Canada's coach Arnd Ludwig said. "Puerto Rico played a little better than us at the end."
