TORONTO - Ben Thomsen and Morgan Pridy were among nine skiers formally nominated Monday to the Canadian team for the upcoming Sochi Olympics.

Thomsen, from Invermere, B.C., finished 12th in a World Cup downhill over the weekend to meet the criteria for nomination in the final race before the qualification window closed. Pridy, from Whistler, B.C., recorded a 21st-place finish in the super-G at Kitzbuhel, Austria.

They were joined on the nomination list by Toronto's Phil Brown, Mike Janyk of Whistler, and Trevor Philp and Brad Spence, both of Calgary. The women's team additions included Erin Mielzynski of Collingwood, Ont., Marie-Pier Prefontaine of Saint-Sauveur, Que., and Elli Terwiel of Sun Peaks, B.C.

They joined the six skiers who were nominated earlier this month: Erik Guay of Mont-Tremblant, Que., Calgary's Jan Hudec, Vancouver's Manuel Osborne-Paradis, Marie-Michele Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Que., Britt Phelan of Mont-Tremblant and Larisa Yurkiw of Owen Sound, Ont.

"This is a strong team with a mix of experienced podium contenders and talented young racers," said Paul Kristofic, Alpine Canada's vice-president of sports. "This group has worked extremely hard to earn the right to represent Canada at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

"They will do everything they can to push for the podium and make Canada proud."

The Sochi Games will be held Feb. 7-23.
