Canada's Mark McMorris won bronze in men's snowboard slopestyle at the Sochi Olympics on Saturday.

It's Canada's first medal of the Games.

McMorris, a medal favourite, fell on the landing of his final jump in the first run, scored 33.75 points and needed a strong second run to land on the podium.

Maxence Parrot of Bromont, Que., was also caught by the landing of the final jump in his first run, needing to improve on his score of 47.0 in the final run.  Parrot battled back scoring a 87.25 to finish fifth in his Olympic debut.

Sebastien Toutant of L'Assomption, Que., struggled with his landing on the final jump scoring 58.50 finishing 9th.

American Shaun White, considered to be a top slopestyle contender, pulled out of competition earlier in the week to focus on the halfpipe event.
