Germany's Maria Hoefl-Riesch has taken the gold medal in the women's super combined.

Combining her fifth place finish in her downhill run with her third place finish in the slalom, the 29-year-old held off a deep field to win at Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort on Monday with a total time of 2:34.62.

Austria's Nicole Hosp took the silver medal with a total time of 2:35.02, placing fourth in the slalom run.

Despite leading the pack after the downhill, American skier Julia Mancuso faltered on her slalom run, placing 13th and ending up with the bronze medal.

Marie-Michèle Gagnon, the lone Canadian in the race, had difficult runs on both the downhill and slalom runs. The 24-year-old Lac-Etchemin, Que., native crashed in her slalom race and ended up unranked.
