Canadian freestyle skier Yuki Tsubota was taken to hospital after crashing in the final run of the women's ski slopestyle event at the Sochi Olympics on Tuesday.

Tsubota, 20, reportedly hurt her jaw when she crashed while attempting a 900 (two and a half spins) on the final jump on the course. She fell short of the landing and fell heavily, appearing to slam her jaw on her knee in the process. She was carried off the course in a stretcher before being taken to a hospital in Krasnaya Polyana, where the freestyle events are being held.

"There has been some kind of jaw injury," said Peter Judge, the chief executive of the the Canada Freestyle Ski Association. "We don't know the extent of it yet. There is no other issues with other appendages or parts of her body, no concussion or anything like that."

Tsubota, who is from Vancouver, was heard groaning from the stretcher as she was carried to the ambulance, according to the Olympic News Service.

Her mother and grandmother were with her in the medical centre.
