Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The FBI's Boston office and the Boston Police Department are reporting that there has not been an arrest in the Boston Marathon bombings.

The FBI released a statement Wednesday afternoon after CNN had reported that an arrest was made in connection with Monday's bombings that killed three and wounded upwards of 140 people. CNN was informed that there had been a misunderstanding among officials and that no one has been arrested.

"Contrary to widespread reporting, no arrest has been made in connection with the Boston Marathon attack," the statement reads. "Over the past day and a half, there have been a number of press reports based on information from unofficial sources that has been inaccurate. Since these stories often have unintended consequences, we ask the media, particularly at this early stage of the investigation, to exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting."

The FBI was to have held a public briefing at the Moakley Federal Courthouse at 5 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday, but the conference was cancelled following a bomb threat that temporarily caused the building to be evacuated.

Three people were killed after a pair of explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon at 2:50 p.m. ET on Monday.

At least one of the bombs was housed in a pressure cooker hidden inside a backpack. The device also had fragments that may have included nails, BBs and ball bearings.
