World Wrestling Entertainment performer Darren Young announced to TMZ on Thursday that he is gay, becoming the first openly gay wrestler in the organization.
WWE released a statement in support of Young's choice to be open about his sexuality.
"On TMZ this morning, WWE Superstar Darren Young revealed to the WWE Universe that he is gay," it read. "WWE is proud of Darren Young for being open about his sexuality, and we will continue to support him as a WWE Superstar. "
Fellow WWE wrestler John Cena told TMZ that he is happy for Young to be public about his lifestyle. "I know Darren personally," said Cena to TMZ. "Darren's a great guy. That's a very bold move for him. And congratulations for him for actually finally doing it."
WWE's Executive Vice President Paul Levesque, who wrestles under the name Triple H, also tweeted his support for Young on his verified twitter account.
"Congratulations, @DarrenYoungWWE for living YOUR life, YOUR way. #proud," the message read.
Young, whose real name is Frederick Rosser, currently wrestles as one half of a tag team called The Prime Time Players. His partner Titus O'Neil also offered his support on Thursday.
"I'm VERY PROUD of @DarrenYoungWWE," he tweeted. "He's been like Family 2Me&My Kids And that won't Change!"
O'Neil also tweeted a picture of the two men along with his post.
