San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Diego Padres and outfielder Seth Smith agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension.

The new deal, announced Wednesday, also includes a club option for 2017. Per team policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Smith is a .281 hitter with nine home runs, 18 doubles and 25 RBI over 72 games this season.

The Padres acquired Smith on Dec. 3 from the Oakland Athletics for reliever Luke Gregerson.

He batted .253 with eight home runs, 40 RBI, 27 doubles and a .329 on- base percentage in 117 games for the A's last season.
