Robert Bortuzzo will be hearing from the league after his big hit on Jaromir Jagr.

The Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman will have a hearing with the NHL for his late hit on Jagr in his team’s 1-0 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Bortuzzo hit Jagr hard into the boards after Jagr had sent a pass around the boards in the second period. The future Hall of Famer laid on the ice for several minutes before slowly making his way to the bench. He did not return.

Devils head coach Peter DeBoer was not impressed with the hit after the game. "Totally unnecessary," DeBoer said "You know, if one of our guys had done that to Crosby there'd be World War Four."

Bortuzzo however, felt the hit was clean. "I thought the puck was there," said Bortuzzo. "I kept my shoulder down, felt like I hit him in the chest. It's unfortunate he went out of the game, but like I said, just playing hard."
