Kevin Pillar homered twice and drove in a career-high four runs against former Cy Young winner Max Scherzer and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Washington Nationals 7-3 to split a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday.

Pillar's homers including a three-run blast with two outs in the sixth inning that gave the Blue Jays a 4-3 lead.

Toronto snapped a three-game losing streak, bouncing back from a 2-0 loss to Jordan Zimmermann and the Nationals in Tuesday's opener, which was a make-up of Monday's rainout.

The three-game series finale is Wednesday.

Marco Estrada (2-3) pitched six innings to win the nightcap -- the first time the Blue Jays came away with a victory in the right-hander's six starts since joining the rotation on May 5. He gave up three runs -- two earned -- on six hits and two walks while striking out five.

After Zimmermann threw eight shutout innings in the opener, Scherzer (6-4) threw 101 pitches and labored through six frames, retiring the side in order just once as his five-start winning streak came to an end.

The 2013 AL Cy Young Award winner with Detroit lost for the first time in eight career starts against Toronto after giving up four runs, six hits and two walks. He also singled and scored a run for the third time this season.

Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman each drove in a run in the opener and Harper went 2-for-4 in the nightcap with a run scored. Tyler Moore knocked in two for the Nationals, who have lost four of their last five.

Batting eighth, Pillar tied a career-high with three hits in the game, going 3-for-3 against Scherzer and matching his season total in home runs.

He got all fastballs from Scherzer in a six-pitch at-bat in the second inning and drove a 94 mph offering over the left-field wall.

His two-out blast in the sixth came on a slider, which he deposited just over the wall in left to give Toronto a 4-3 advantage.

"Just a hanger over the plate," said Nationals manager Matt Williams. "That being a different pitch, it could be a different story."

The Blue Jays tacked on three runs in the seventh, scoring the first two on Chris Colabello's RBI single and Danny Valencia's sacrifice fly off Blake Treinen. The last run scored on a double steal with Felipe Rivero on the mound when Russell Martin trotted home after catcher Jose Lobaton threw to second base.

Liam Hendriks threw two perfect innings for Toronto, striking out two out of the bullpen, and Brett Cecil pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to end the game.

The Nationals took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning after Harper and Moore hit consecutive doubles and Lobaton added an RBI single.

Scherzer hit a leadoff single in the fifth and scored on Moore's bases-loaded sacrifice fly, which came after Harper reached base for a fifth straight time going back to Game 1 when Estrada dropped Colabello's soft toss while covering first on a bouncer up the line.
