CHICAGO — The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right-hander Juan Nicasio on the restricted list to tend to a family matter.

Manager Clint Hurdle says the move isn't "punitive" and that Nicasio was encouraged to go. The Pirates made the announcement prior to a game Saturday night against the Cubs.

It's unclear when Nicasio could return, though he's expected to miss his scheduled start Tuesday against the Giants. Wilfredo Boscan may fill in.

Nicasio (5-6, 5.83 ERA) gave up six runs and three homers in a loss Thursday to the New York Mets.

The Pirates also designated left-hander Cory Luebke for assignment, optioned right-hander Rob Scahill to Triple-A Indianapolis, selected the contract of righty Jorge Rondon and recalled infielder Jason Rogers and right-hander Curtis Partch.
