Pending free agent Roman Polak expects to be ready for opening night of the 2017-18 season after undergoing right leg surgery last week.

The Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman called the surgery a success on Tuesday as the Leafs cleared out their lockers.

Polak was injured in the second period of Game 2 of the Leafs' series against the Washington Capitals. His exact injury has not been disclosed

The 30-year-old was injured in a leg-on-leg collision with Capitals defenceman Brooks Orpik. He remained down for several minutes after the hit and required help getting off of the ice, avoiding pressure on his right leg. Orpik said he reached out to Polak after the hit.

Polak scored four goals and seven assists in 75 games during the regular season. He logged an average of 17:55 of ice time per game while forming the team's third pairing with Matt Hunwick.

He is set to become an unrestricted free-agent in July.
