Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Roman Polak will have a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Thursday morning for a boarding infraction on Columbus Blue Jackets forward Oliver Bjorkstrand.

At the one-minute mark of the final frame of Wednesday's game, Polak was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for driving Bjorkstrand into the boards as he turned to backhand the puck behind the Leafs' net.

Bjorkstrand remained on the ice following the hit before receiving help getting to the bench. He did not return to the game.

Polak logged 11:48 of ice time before the misconduct was issued.

The Maple Leafs spent just under seven minutes killing the five-minute penalty because the team did not send a player to the serve the penalty and had to wait for a whistle.

"That's all my fault," Leafs head coach Mike Babcock said of the error after the game. "That will never happen in my lifetime again."

Polak, 30, owns four goals and eight points in 66 games with the Leafs this season. He entered the game with 46 penalty minutes on the season.

Bjorkstrand, 21, owns six goals and five assists in 21 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He logged 8:15 of ice time with a minus-1 rating before exiting.

The Leafs won Wednesday's game 5-2.
