BOISBRIAND, Que. — Alexandre Alain did his part to avoid any sort of potential upset to begin the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs.

Alain scored his second goal of the night 4:20 into overtime as the top-seeded Blainville-Boisbriand Armada edged the 16th-seeded Val-d'Or Foreurs 3-2 on Thursday night in Game 1 of their first-round matchup.

Blainville-Boisbriand finished 62 points ahead of Val-d'Or in the regular-season standings. The Foreurs scored a league-low 172 goals, gave up a league-worst 308 goals and entered the post-season on a 13-game losing streak.

Alex Barre-Boulet also scored for the Armada, which hosts Game 2 of the best-of-seven set Friday. Emile Samson made 18 saves for the win.

Mathieu Marquis gave Val-d'Or a chance by stopping 43-of-46 shots. Yan Dion and David Henley supplied the offence for the Foreurs.

Both teams went 0-for-4 on the power play.
