CHARLOTTETOWN - Mitchell Balmas had a pair of goals as the Charlottetown Islanders slipped past the Shawinigan Cataractes 4-3 on Monday to take a 2-1 lead in their Quebec Major Junior League playoff series.

Keith Getson's goal at the 12:39 mark of the third period was the winner for Charlottetown. Oliver Cooper also scored as Mason McDonald made 48 saves for the win.

Anthony Beauvillier struck twice for Shawinigan and Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Dmytro Timashov also scored. Goaltender Philippe Cadorette stopped 40 shots for the Cataractes.

The Islanders went 1 for 5 on the power play and Shawinigan was 1 for 4 with the man advantage.

SEA DOGS 5 SCREAMING EAGLES 2

SYDNEY, N.S. — Matthew Highmore scored twice and added an assist to lead Saint John past Cape Breton.

Spencer Smallman and Jordan King also scored as the Sea Dogs built a 3-0 lead by the 2:46 mark of the second period. Bokondji Imama added a goal in the third period as Saint John takes a 2-1 series lead.

Loik Leveille and Giovanni Fiore replied for the Screaming Eagles.
