VAL-D'OR, Que. - Ryan Penny scored twice and added an assist as the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies evened their first-round Quebec Major Junior Hockey League series at a game apiece on Saturday night with a 8-3 rout of the Val-d'Or Foreurs.

Francis Perron also had a pair of goals for the Huskies. Redgie Bois, Jean-Christophe Beaudin, Julien Nantel and Alexandre Fortin supplied the rest of the offence.

Anthony Richard, Simon Tremblay and William Gignac scored for Val-d'Or.

Samuel Harvey kicked out 27 shots for the win in goal. Etienne Montpetit suffered the loss after turning aside 28-of-34 shots in 45:41 before being lifted. Keven Bouchard made 11 saves in relief.

Rouyn-Noranda had a pair of power-play goals on 10 chances while the Foreurs were scoreless on four opportunities.

The series moves to Rouyn-Noranda, Que., with Game 3 taking place on Tuesday.

CATARACTES 4 MOOSEHEADS 2

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Gabriel Slight had the first of four-straight goals to open the game for the Cataractes as they got past Halifax in Game 2 of their playoff matchup to even the series at a game apiece.

Zachary Taylor, Brandon Gignac, on the power play, and Alexis D'Aoust supplied the rest of the offence for Shawinigan.

Ryan Falkenham and Danny Moynihan chipped in with power-play goals in the third for the Mooseheads.

The series shifts back to Halifax for Game 3 on Tuesday.

PHOENIX 7 ISLANDERS 3

SHERBROOKE, Que. — Cameron Darcy had a five-point night — including a hat trick — as the Phoenix rebounded to tie their first-round playoff series at a game apiece by routing Charlottetown in Game 2.

Daniel Audette struck twice and had an assist for Sherbrooke. David Storto and Kay Schweri rounded out the attack.

Luc Deschenes, Daniel Sprong and Spenser Cobbold supplied the offence for the Islanders.

The series moves to Charlottetown for Game 3 on Monday.

BAIE-COMEAU, Que. — Simon Desbiens scored the eventual winner in the second period as the Drakkar took a 2-0 series lead by downing Saint John in Game 2 of their first-round playoff matchup.

Nicolas Meloche also had a goal in the second for Baie-Comeau. Maxime St-Cyr and Anthony Beauchamp, into an empty net, added insurance in the third. Vaclav Karabacek had three assists.

Nathan Noel answered with a goal on the power play in the third for the Sea Dogs.

Game 3 takes place on Tuesday in Saint John, N.B.

RIMOUSKI, Que. — Christopher Clapperton scored the first of three goals in the third period for the Oceanic as they took a 2-0 series lead with a Game 2 win over Victoriaville in first-round playoff action.

Anthony Chapados and Deven St-Hilaire also found the back of the net in the period for Rimouski. Simon Bourque and Michael Joly opened the scoring.

Phil Pietroniro, Samuel Blais and Tristan Pomerleau had goals for the Tigres.

The series shifts to Victoriaville, Que., for Game 3 on Tuesday.

QUEBEC — Callum Booth stopped all 31 shots he faced as the Memorial Cup host Remparts blanked Cape Breton to even their first-round playoff series at a game apiece.

Marcus Cuomo opened the scoring in the first for Quebec while Ryan Graves added the other.

Alexandre Belanger turned away 36 shots for the Screaming Eagles in the loss.
