CHARLOTTETOWN - A strong first period offensively and solid goaltending led the Charlottetown Islanders to victory on Friday night.

Bradley Kennedy scored the first of three straight 1:39 into the first period on the power play and Mason McDonald made 50 saves as the Islanders doubled the Saint John Sea Dogs 4-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

McDonald, a Calgary Flames prospect, faced 23 shots in the second period alone for his 24th win of the season.

Ross Johnston and Oliver Cooper also found the back of the net in the first for Charlottetown (28-24-4). Filip Chlapik added his 26th of the year in the second.

Nathan Noel and Spencer Smallman replied for the Sea Dogs (28-20-9) in the second. Sebastien Auger turned aside 30 shots.

The Islanders converted once on five power plays while Saint John went 0 for 4 with the man advantage.

WILDCATS 7 SCREAMING EAGLES 2

SYDNEY, N.S. — Dominic Talbot-Tassi and Bronson Beaton both scored twice in a four-goal third period as Moncton dominated the Screaming Eagles for its fifth straight win.

Ivan Barbashev also had a two-goal game for the Wildcats (39-16-3). Stephen Johnson rounded out the attack.

Maxim Lazarev opened the scoring just 1:25 into the first with Stephen Anderson chipping in with a goal in the second for Cape Breton (24-26-5).

OLYMPIQUES 4 SAGUENEENS 1

GATINEAU, Que. — Yakov Trenin had a goal and three assists as the Olympiques scored all their offence in the second period to beat Chicoutimi.

Valentin Zykov, Marc Beckstead and Jake Coughler also found the back of the net for Gatineau (22-30-5). The Olympiques outshot the Sagueneens 21-6 in the second period.

Victor Baldaev answered in the third for Chicoutimi (24-26-6).

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Anthony Beauvillier struck twice and added an assist as the Cataractes handed Drummondville its ninth straight loss.

Dennis Yan, Christophe Lalonde and Pascal Aquin rounded out the attack for Shawinigan (31-21-3), which won its fourth in a row.

Matthew Boucher replied with a goal in the second period for the Voltigeurs (23-31-3).

VAL-D'OR, Que. — Jan Mandat scored the winner in the sixth round of the shootout as the Foreurs won their fourth in a row by edging Blainville-Boisbriand.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel had a goal in the first on the power play for Val-d'Or (26-22-8). Olivier Galipeau also scored.

Philippe Sanche scored with the man advantage in the second for the Armada (36-14-8) and Fabrizio Ricci tying the game in the third.
