GATINEAU, Que. - Manuel Wiederer scored three times and set up one more as the Moncton Wildcats toppled the Gatineau Olympiques 7-2 on Monday to move on to the semifinals of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs.

Moncton took the best-of-seven second-round series 4-2.

Cameron Askew had a pair of goals as the Wildcats built up a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes of action. Zachary Malatesta, Kevin Klima and Wiederer added a goal each in the third to secure the victory. Regular-season leading scorer Connor Garland tacked on three assists.

Vitalii Abramov struck twice for the Olympiques in the second to make it a 4-2 Moncton advantage at second intermission.

Wildcats netminder Kevin Bouchard made 22 saves for the win. Mathieu Bellemare started in net for Gatineau but gave up three goals on five shots and found himself on the bench just 4:52 into the game. Mark Grametbauer went the rest of the way, stopping 23-of-25 shots in relief.

Moncton went 4 for 9 on the power play while the Olympiques failed to score on two chances with the man advantage.
