The Vancouver Canucks (43-26-4) shoot for their first four-game win streak since the opening month of the season when they host the Colorado Avalanche (33-28-12) at Rogers Arena. Colorado becomes the 29th and final visitor to make an appearance in Vancouver this season. Last time the Canucks faced the Avs (November 4 in Denver), Bo Horvat made his NHL debut and saw 8:52 of ice-time. These teams have split their first two meetings of the season.

The Canucks are coming off Tuesday’s 5-2 victory over Winnipeg. They have won three straight, five of six and seven of their past nine games. Eddie Lack makes his second straight start. He is 4-1 in his last five decisions. Jannik Hansen and Alex Burrows who both took yesterday off from practice are expected to be in the line-up tonight.

In his 74th game behind the bench, Willie Desjardins can join the Canucks top-10 in all-time coaching victories with a win tonight (Hal Laycoe currently sits solo 10th with 44).

Tonight’s game features the Canucks paying tribute to the 100th anniversary of the 1915 Stanley Cup champion Vancouverv Millionaires. Tonight's game will feature vintage uniforms and vintage players -- five of the top 11 scorers in the NHL aged 33 or older are taking part in this contest (Henrik, Daniel, Vrbata, Iginla and Tanguay).

Radim Vrbata, who has a team-high 29 goals in his first season as a Canuck, scored 29 goals over two seasons with the Avalanche (2001-2003).

The Canucks have gone 7-3-1 in their last 11 games – a record made more impressive by the fact the team has scored just four first period goals in that span. The last time the Canucks scored two goals in a first period was March 1 against St. Louis when they erased an early 2-0 deficit. The last time the Canucks enjoyed a 2-0 first period lead in a game was February 13 against Boston. The Canucks have held a 2-0 first period lead just twice since the All-Star break (vs BOS and vs PIT).

The Avs are here still clinging to the hope of a miracle push to the playoffs. That dream took a hit last night with a 4-3 loss in Edmonton. Semyon Varlamov gave up three goals on seven shots in the first 9:36 of action and was replaced by Reto Berra. However, Varlamov is expected to get the start tonight. He has started 28 of the last 29 Avalanche games.

Ryan O’Reilly tied his career-high with a goal and three points last night and extended his point streak to five games (4+5=9). Jarome Iginla had a PPG which moved him within a point of Jean Beliveau (1219) for 40th place in all-time NHL scoring. Last night, Iginla moved past Trevor Linden into 39th spot in all-time games played (1383). Tonight, he’ll tie Larry Robinson for 38th spot.

Despite the talent they possess, the Avs are 29th in the league on the PP (13.6%) this season and are 2-18 in their past seven games.

Victoria’s Tyson Barrie is T-8th in defenseman scoring in the league with 11 goals and 47 points.

The seven goals the Avs scored in a 7-3 win on October are the most the Canucks have surrendered in a game this season. The 48 shots Colorado registered that night are also a season high against the Canucks.
