A potential reunion between the Toronto Raptors and Vince Carter will have to wait.

The Raptors are no longer interested in bringing back the 41-year-old Carter this season, team sources told TSN Raptors Reporter Josh Lewenberg. The Raptors made their former player an offer last summer during free agency, and had internal discussions this season about signing Carter should he reach a buyout with the Sacramento Kings, according to Lewenberg.

"It's something they would be open to in the future, perhaps next year in some capacity, but they’ve decided that now is not the right time," Lewenberg said on The Jurrasic Pod, in regards to the Raptors discussions regarding Carter. "I think the consensus seems to be that there’s so much going on right now this season about this team, their accomplishments, and their playoff push, and not the sideshow that I think would come with Carter returning."

Lewenberg believes the Raptors are instead interested in Orlando Magic guard Arron Afflalo, who would seemingly be a good candidate for a buyout. Raptors President Masai Ujiri is quite familiar with Afflalo, who Ujiri had on his roster for two seasons when he served as the general manager of the Nuggets. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that the current president of the Magic is Jeff Weltman, who served alongside Ujiri in Toronto's front office as well as that of Denver's.

Afflalo, 32, is averaging 3.2 points per game for the Magic this season. but has averaged 10.8 points over his careeCarter's history with the Raptors is well noted. He spent parts of seven seasons with the team after it acquired him in draft-day trade with the Golden State Warriors for Antawn Jamison. Carter went on to win Rookie of The Year for the 1998-99 season, and made five All-Star appearances as a member of the Raptors. And, of course, he delivered one of the all-time great performances in Dunk Contest history in 2000, while donning a Raptors jersey.

Toronto traded Carter to the then-New Jersey Nets in 2004, in a deal that people still question to this because of the small return the Raptors received for Carter.

In addition to the Raptors, Nets, and Kings, Carter has also played for the Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and Memphis Grizzlies in his 20-year-career. He holds career averages of 17.9 points per game and 4.5 rebounds, and is a 10-time All-Star.
