Toronto Raptors key reserve guard Fred VanVleet is out for Game 1 of the team's first round series versus the Washington Wizards today because of a right shoulder injury, the Raptors have announced.

VanVleet incurred the injury in the team's regular season-finale Wednesday night against the Miami Heat. He left the game with 1:32 remaining in regulation after trying to fight through a screen, and stayed down for several seconds near the Toronto bench before getting helped off the floor.

Raptors head coach Dwane Casey told the media that VanVleet won't be out for long, but as TSN Raptors Reporter Josh Lewenberg points out, VanVleet's absence today is kind of surprising given that Casey said  yesterday that VanVleet's shoulder was just "sore".

VanVleet is in his second season with the Raptors after signing with the club as an undrafted free agent in 2016. In 76 games during the regular season, he averaged 8.6 points and 3.2 assists.

Game 2 between the Raptors and Wizards is on Tuesday evening in Toronto.
