The Detroit Red Wings have signed veteran free agent defenceman Mike Green to a three-year contract.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports the deal is worth $6 million per season.

Green scored 10 goals and 45 points in 72 games last season and added another two assists in 14 playoffs contests.

The 29-year-old was selected 29th overall in the 2004 draft by the Washington Capitals and has spent 10 seasons with the club.

He set a career high in goals with 31 in 2008-2009 and in points with 76 a year later. He was nominated for the Norris Trophy in both of those seasons.
