The Carolina Panthers announced Friday cornerback Bashaud Breeland will not be joining the team after failing a physical.

Breeland and the Panthers had agreed to a three-year, $24 million deal with $11 million in guarantees.

The 26-year-old failed his physical with a non-football injury which NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported was a cut to his foot that became infected.

Rapoport added Breeland is a few months away from being healthy enough to sign with a team.

Breeland played in 15 games with Washington last season, finishing with 34 tackles, one interception, and 19 pass defences.
