The Tampa Buccaneers appear unwilling to commit to Doug Martin beyond this season.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the Buccaneers declined to pick up Martin's fifth-year option - the deadline to do so passed on Sunday.

Martin had a breakout rookie season, rushing for 1,454 yards, but has struggled in his two seasons since, failing to surpass 500 yards in either year.

After posting 12 touchdowns in his first season, Martin has rushed for only three in the two seasons since. He remains the atop the depth chart for the Buccaneers and will hope to breakout again with Jameis Winston now under centre in front of him.

The Buccaneers also have Bobby Rainey, Mike James and Charles Sims on the roster at running back and drafted fullback Joey Iosefa in the seventh round on Sunday.

Martin, Trent Richardson and David Wilson were the three running backs drafted in the first round of the 2012 draft, none will have their options picked up. Richardson was drafted by the Cleveland Browns, traded to Indianapolis Colts and released after the 2014 season. Wilson, a New York Giants' draft pick, was forced to retire due to a neck injury.
