The St. Louis Cardinals will hold a news conference Sunday and are expected to announce a three-year extension for All-Star catcher Yadier Molina, according to multiple reports.

The deal has yet to be confirmed and Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said last Thursday that nothing had been accomplished with the veteran catcher just yet, however he did say he was "hopeful" that an agreement could be reached by opening day.

Fox Sports's Ken Rosenthal reported last week that sources said an extension through 2020 could be worth between $55 million and $65 million.

Molina has spent his entire 13-year career with the Cards and is entering the final season of a five-year, $75 million contract he signed prior to 2013. That contract includes a mutual $15 million option for the 2018 campaign.

The 34-year-old hit .307 with eight home runs and 58 runs batted in over 147 games in 2016. He also produced a .360 on-base percentage and a .427 slugging percentage.

The seven-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion has a career .285 average with 108 homers and 703 RBIs over 1,611 games.

The Cardinals open the regular season against National League Central Division rivals and defending World Series champions Chicago Cubs on Sunday.
