The Dallas Cowboys may be eyeing DeMarco Murray's replacement on the trade market.

According to Vic Lombardi of CBS Denver, the Cowboys are in trade talks with the Denver Broncos for running back Montee Ball.

The Cowboys signed Darren McFadden in the offseason to compete with Joseph Randle to fill the void for Murray, who rushed for 1,845 yards in 2014. However, Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said the team would be watching cuts to possibly add a running back.

Ball, a second-round pick in 2013, opened last season as the Broncos starter, bur slipped down the depth chart due to injury. In the preseason, Ball worked behind C.J. Anderson, Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson.

The 24-year-old played just five games last seasons, rushing for 172 yards and one touchdown. He ran for 559 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie.

It remains to be seen whether Ball could handle the workload the Cowboys placed on Murray last season at the pro level, but Ball did receive 356 carries as a senior at Wisconsin.

Across his junior and senior seasons, Ball carried the ball 653 times for 3,753 yards and 55 touchdowns.
