Jaroslav Halak appears to be going under the knife this off-season.
According to Arthur Staple of Newsday, New York Islanders goaltender Halak needs surgery to repair a sports hernia and faces a six-to-eight week recovery. Staple notes it is unclear whether or not Halak has had the surgery yet.
Halak, the Islanders' No. 1 goalie this season, was unable to dress for the Islanders in the playoffs due to a groin injury. Halak suffered the injury on March 8 and did not dress again during the season. He missed all 11 of the team's playoff games.
In 36 games during the 2015-16 season, Halak posted an 18-13-4 record with a 2.30 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. He also recorded three shutouts.
Halak has two years left on his contract at a $4.5 million AAV, but faces an uncertain role moving forward after Thomas Greiss shined in his absence.
