The Toronto Blue Jays could turn to a recent opponent to help bolster their starting pitching ranks.
Samardzija, 30, is 7-5 this season for the Pale Hose in 20 starts. He has a 3.91 ERA and a WHIP of 1.190 in 140.1 innings pitched. The former Notre Dame wide receiver has struck out 108 batters and walked 26.
The native of Merrillville, Indiana has mastered the Jays this season. In 16 innings of work against baseball's best offence, Samardzija has not surrendered a run. On July 9, Samardzija threw a four-hit complete game shutout against the Jays in Chicago.
In his last start on Thursday, Samardzija allowed four hits and one run in eight innings of work in a 8-1 win over the Cleveland Indians.
Samardzija is a free agent at season's end. He was dealt to the Oakland Athletics from the Chicago Cubs, where he spent his first six seasons, last July.
The MLB non-waiver trade deadline is on July 31.
