The Toronto Blue Jays are continuing to search for pitching help ahead of the non-waiver trade deadline.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports the Blue Jays are still in talks with the Milwaukee Brewers regarding pitcher Mike Fiers, though Fiers is not the only pitcher the Jays are looking in to.

Fiers, 30, has started 20 games for the Brewers this season. He's 5-8 with a 3.94 ERA and a WHIP of 1.384. Fiers has struck out 116 batters and walked 42.

The Nova Southeastern University product's contract status would be particularly attractive to Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos, but, as Roesnthal pointed out earlier this week, acquiring Fiers could prove to be a challenge.

Jeff Samardzija, 30, is 7-5 this season for the Chicago White Sox in 20 starts. He has a 3.91 ERA and a WHIP of 1.190 in 140.1 innings pitched. The former Notre Dame wide receiver has struck out 108 batters and walked 26.

The native of Merrillville, Indiana has mastered the Jays this season. In 16 innings of work against baseball's best offence, Samardzija has not surrendered a run. On July 9, Samardzija threw a four-hit complete game shutout against the Jays in Chicago.

In his last start on Thursday, Samardzija allowed four hits and one run in eight innings of work in a 8-1 win over the Cleveland Indians.

Samardzija is a free agent at season's end. He was dealt to the Oakland Athletics from the Chicago Cubs, where he spent his first six seasons, last July.

Johnny Cueto was acquired by the Kansas City Royals later on Sunday, according to Rosenthal.

Major League Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline.is on July 31.
