The Toronto Blue Jays could be without Gavin Floyd for an extended period.

The relief pitcher has suffered a torn Lat. muscle and will miss eight-to-12 weeks, according to MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm.

However, relief appears to be on the way for the Jays, as manager John Gibbons told Chisholm he expects pitcher Brett Cecil to rejoin the Blue Jays in time for the team's four-game set with the Cleveland Indians, which starts Thursday.

Cecil, 29, has not played since May 14 due to a triceps strain. He struggled to open the season, posting an 0-5 record with a 5.23 ERA in 16 games before landing on the disabled list.

The 33-year-old Floyd owns a 2-4 record with a 4.06 ERA in 28 games this season. He owns a 1.00 WHIP in 31 innings with 30 strikeouts and eight walks.

Floyd last pitched on June 25 against the Chicago White Sox, giving up one hit in 1/3 innings. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder tightness the next day.

The Latissimus Dorsi muscle causes pain in the mid-back area and around the shoulder blade.
