McCullough says the team is hopeful that the 28-year-old native of Dallas will be ready to return after the All-Star break.

In 16 starts this season, Kershaw is 11-2 with a 1.79 earned run average and a WHIP of 0.727 through 121.1 innings pitched. He's struck out 145 batters and issued only nine walks.

A three-time Cy Young winner and the National League's Most Valuable Player in 2015, Kershaw was last placed on the DL prior to the 2014 season. It was the first and only stint of his career prior to the current one.

The Dodgers (43-37) sit second in the NL West, six games behind the San Francisco Giants. They are the current holders of the first NL wild card spot. The team concludes a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday.
