The Washington Nationals have signed relief pitcher Casey Janssen to a one-year, $5 million contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

The deal includes a mutual option for the 2016 season with a buyout.

The 33-year-old has spent his entire eight-year career with the Toronto Blue Jays. Originally the team’s fourth round pick in the 2004 draft, Janssen was converted from a starter to a reliever in the 2009 season.

Last year, Janssen went 3-3 with a 3.94 ERA while recording 25 saves.

He has been the Blue Jays closer for the past three seasons but struggled in the second half of 2014, unofficially losing his role to Aaron Sanchez.

It is not known what role Janssen will take in the Nationals' bullpen. The team traded setup man Tyler Clippard to the Oakland Athletics earlier this off-season. Rafael Soriano was the team's Opening Day closer before losing the job to Drew Storen towards the end of the season.
