The New England Patriots may be forced their fourth-string quarterback against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4.
According to Mike Petragila of WEEI Boston, Jacoby Brissett suffered a torn thumb ligament in his right hand Thursday night against the Houston Texans and likely need surgery.
Brissett started on Thursday night in place of Jimmy Garoppolo, who suffered a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder in Week 2. He completed 11 of 19 passes for 103 yards and added 48 rushing yards with a touchdown in the 27-0 win.
Garoppolo was inactive against the Texans and wide receiver Julian Edelman served as the team's emergency backup.
Patriots starter Tom Brady is eligible to return from his four-game suspension in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.
