The Philadelphia Phillies appear to have finally ended the Cole Hamels saga, reportedly trading the left-hander to the Texas Rangers. The trade was first reported by TR Sullivan of MLB.com.

In exchange for Hamels, LHP Jake Diekman, and cash, the Phillies will acquire LHP Matt Harrison, and prospects OF Nick Williams, C Jorge Alfaro, RHP Jerad Eickhoff, RHP Alec Asher, and RHP Jake Thompson according to reports.

In 20 starts with the Phillies this season, Hamels has posted a 6-7 record with a 3.64 earned-run average and a 1.181 WHIP, including a no hitter over the weekend.

Hamels, 31, has pitched his entire 10-year career with the Phillies earning three All-Star selections as well as NLCS and World Series MVP honours in the Phillies 2008 championship season.

He has thrived in October, posting a 7-4 career postseason record with a 3.09 ERA and a 1.053 WHIP over 10 playoff series.

Hamels has three guaranteed years remaining on his contract beyond 2015 worth $23.5 million per season. There is an additional option for 2019 that could be the team’s or the player’s depending on his health over the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

The 21-year-old Williams is batting .300 with 13 home runs and 45 RBIs in Double A this year. Alfaro, 22, is batting .253 with five home runs and 21 RBIs in Double A, and Eickhoff, 24, has 8-4 with a 4.47 ERA and 1.303 WHIP in Triple A.
